KEVIN
The Boss
Languages: English, Spanish

He first arrived in May of 1994 as an advanced diver and promptly fell in love with the island for its unique charm. Back home in the U.S., he felt like the daily work grind was getting the better of him. He realised that the rats had won the race and left to set up a new life here in Utila.

Welcome to Utila,
My name is Helene, I’m from France ,born on Reunion Island in Indian Ocean.
In France , I’m tour guide , I used to play Volley ball and snow board ..Last year, I decided to come to Central America and working in diving. I came in Utila December 2010 and I’m still here. It’s an amazing place for diving: Eagles rays, turtles, nurses sharks. Also, I really like our little paradise because so many different peoples comes, always something s going on at night … My side to be instructor is simply great because I can share my passion in a nice atmosphere like in Captain Morgan s . Hope to see you soon

My love of diving began in Malaysia with a Discover Scuba Dive. I qualified in 2005 in the UK in Stony Cove Quarry in a dry suit and after that experience vowed only to dive in warm waters. Being warm is my number one priority in life. I have travelled extensively and I really miss marmite and live music! I qualified as a divemaster with the fantastic Captain Morgan’s team and as an instructor in 2012, I have been working here ever since. Buena Vida!

When I realize that I couldn’t go to the moon I decided to explore something more accesible to the common person. The ocean. Being underwater and being able to remain there is the closest thing to travel to another dimension. Its literally being in another world, full of eccentricities and magic. Perfect combination.I had a chat with Poseidon, he said it was ok for me to dive as long as I respected the basic laws of this harmonic underwater paradise that is Utila. We became good friends, he even confessed to me that he would prefer to have legs instead of a fish tale, ” I wish we could trade them, I said” …and we both laughed, quite a character! Thanks to the hospitality and kindness of Kevin at Captain Morgan’s I got the chance to work in the divecentre to fund my continuing dive education and to help divers with their journey to the underwater wonders.

Diving was not originally going to be part of my year to two year trip down through Central America to South America, but when I got to Utila and starting diving with Captain Morgan’s, the love affair began. It didn’t take much suggestion from my new diving friends for me to keep going from Open Water to Advanced, Rescue and on to Divemaster in training, and here I am, loving every underwater meditative minute. This is perhaps the first time I’ve just gone for a hobby full bore and I’m ecstatic that I have. What a blast!
